BIOGRAPHY
Pieter was born in 1991 in Leuven.
Growing up in a musical family, Pieter started his musical education at the art academy of Tienen, where he studied musical theory and percussion with his teachers Koen Wilmaers and Carlo Willems. After some years he won several national and international soloist contest, like the WMC Soloist Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands and the Dexia Classics Contest in Brussels, Belgium.
After his graduation at the art academy, he started his professional education at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Antwerp, also with Koen Wilmaers and Carlo Willems. Studying percussion, chamber music, musical theory, practical harmony and conducting, he also followed several international courses in Belgium, France and Germany with Raymond Curfs, Marinus Komst, Mike Quinn, David Punto, Nicolas Martynciouw and David Searchy.
At the age of twenty, he won the audition for solo percussionist at the Brussels Philharmonic, before completing his Bachelor degree in Music.
Combining his orchestral assignments in Brussels Philharmonic, the La Monnaie Opera, Royal Flemish Philharmonic and the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, he also frequently plays as a soloist with amateur and professional ensembles and chamber music groups.
After graduating his Master degree at the Antwerp conservatory in 2014, he won the audition for principal percussionist at the La Monnaie National Opera House in Brussels. Since 2019 he is also a fixed member of the internationally renowned ensemble Belgian Brass.
Apart from playing percussion, Pieter also works as an arranger for wind ensembles and chamber music groups. Among assignments for the Royal Band of the Belgian Guides, the Royal Band of the Belgian Navy and Belgian Brass, he's also a fixed arranger for publisher Golden River Music.
From September 2022, Pieter will be the new percussion head teacher at LUCA School of Arts.
